Description:

Very old painted cast iron horse drawn carriage depiction of the British Royal Mail, Oxford to London postal carriages. Heavy cast iron (weighs about 10 pounds) with some paint loss, as expected for a utilitarian item of this age. Measures 10.25 x 19.5 x 3.75 inches with the reins missing (probably a chain that goes from the horses to the rider). Marked PAT PEND inside the carriage. In Great Britain, the mail coach was a horse drawn carriage that carried the mail deliveries beginning in 1784. They were slowly phased out by the 1840s and 1850s when their role was replaced by trains. This is an amazing piece and an amazing piece of history and decor to display in your home. This object is also a desirable collectible. Please review photos to determine this item's uniqueness and beauty for yourself.
